Akron's newest park, located in the
heart of its downtown area, Lock 3 Park was once the
home of Samuel C. Dyke's marbleworks. On this site, in
1884, Dyke made the United States' first commercial
marbles, the very first mass-produced toy. By 1891, Sam
Dyke had founded American Marble & Toy Manufacturing
Company, which produced over a million marbles-a-day,
and countless other toys, too. Today, Lock 3 Park is the
home of the American Toy Marble Museum, festivals,
concerts and ice skating in the winter.
